Heikin Ashi

Heikin Ashi, Japanese for average bar, is a candlestick chart built from averaged prices: each candle opens at the midpoint of the previous candle's body and closes at the average of the bar's open, high, low and close. The smoothing filters out much of the noise of regular candlesticks, so an uptrend shows as a series of rising candles without lower shadows and a downtrend as falling candles without upper shadows. Heikin Ashi Chart FAQ

What is a Heikin Ashi chart?

Heikin Ashi, Japanese for average bar, is a candlestick chart built from averaged prices. It smooths out price noise, so trends and reversals are easier to see than on a regular candlestick chart.

How is a Heikin Ashi candle calculated?

The close is the average of the bar's open, high, low and close. The open is the midpoint of the previous Heikin Ashi candle's body. The high and low are the highest and lowest of the bar's high or low and the Heikin Ashi open and close.

How do you read Heikin Ashi candles?

Rising candles without lower shadows show a strong uptrend, and falling candles without upper shadows show a strong downtrend. Small bodies with shadows on both sides signal indecision and a possible change of trend.

What is the difference between Heikin Ashi and regular candlesticks?

Regular candles show the actual open, high, low and close of each period. Heikin Ashi candles average them with the previous candle, so trends are clearer, but the prices on the chart are not actual traded prices and signals come a little later.

Can I add indicators to a Heikin Ashi chart?

Yes. Add indicators such as RSI, MACD or moving averages to the Heikin Ashi chart in the same way as on the regular stock chart.

Which symbols can I view as a Heikin Ashi chart?

Stocks from more than 40 exchanges, as well as forex pairs and cryptocurrencies.

How do I find stocks with Heikin Ashi signals?

Use the Heikin Ashi screens to find stocks with a new green or red candle, long candles, strong trends or crossovers of moving averages.
