VCP Setup

Canada

The Volatility Contraction Pattern (VCP) is Mark Minervini's signature base: a Stage 2 stock pulls back several times, each pullback shallower than the one before, as sellers run out. This is step 4 of the Minervini ladder. It keeps all Trend Template criteria and lists stocks on the Toronto Stock Exchange whose price range over the latest 20 bars is narrower than over the 20 bars before, the latest 10 bars are narrower still and below 15%, and price is within 15% of its 50-day high. Those closest to the recent high are shown first. Prices are in Canadian dollars, and the list covers TSX-listed stocks with at least C$1 million in average daily trading value.

Screening formula:
exch(tsx) and type(stock) and advol(21) > 1 and price > sma(50) and sma(50) > sma(150) and sma(150) > sma(200) and sma(200) > sma(200)@21 and price >= 1.25 * w52low and price >= 0.75 * w52high and rs(252) >= 70 and range(20)@40 > range(20)@20 and range(20)@20 > range(10) and range(10) < 15 and off_high(50) < 15 and sortby(off_high(20), asc) and show(range(10) as range_10d, off_high(50) as off_high_50d, off_high(20) as below_20d_high_pct)
