A Bear Trap is a false breakdown: the price falls below a support level, attracting short sellers, and then rises back above it. Support is a price level where buying has repeatedly stopped declines, and resistance is a level where selling has repeatedly stopped rallies; the screener finds these levels from recent price swings. The trapped sellers' covering can fuel a strong rally, so a bear trap is often read as a bullish signal.
