Formula Crypto Screener FAQ

What is a formula crypto screener?

A formula crypto screener finds cryptocurrencies with a formula you write yourself: a logical expression that combines technical indicators, price, volume and chart patterns. The screener checks the formula for every coin and returns the coins for which it is true.

How do I write a crypto screening formula?

Join conditions with and, or and not, and compare values with operators such as greater than or less than. For example, fxgroup(crypto) and rsi(14) ca 30 finds coins quoted against USDT whose 14-period RSI has just crossed above 30. The Formula Expression Helper builds a condition from lists and inserts it into the formula, and View Examples shows ready-made formulas.

Which indicators and patterns can I use for crypto?

More than 100 technical indicators, from moving averages, RSI and MACD to Ichimoku and SuperTrend, events such as crossovers, divergences and new highs, candlestick and chart patterns, and price and volume functions. The Indicator / Function List on this page lists them all.

Which coins and crypto exchanges can I screen?

About 1,000 of the largest coins by market capitalization. Use fxgroup(crypto) for coins quoted against USDT, fxgroup(cryptobtc) for coins quoted against BTC, and crex(binance) to limit the screen to one exchange, such as Binance, Bybit, Coinbase or Kraken. The same screener covers forex pairs with fxgroup(all) or fxgroup(majors).

Can I combine several time frames in one formula?

Yes. Add the @ operator to a condition to evaluate it on another time frame: rsi(14)@h4 is the 4-hour RSI, and @m5, @weeks or @months switch to 5-minute, weekly or monthly bars. A number shifts a value back in time, so sma(200)@5 is the 200-day SMA five bars ago.

How current is the crypto data?

Crypto data is near real-time, with a delay of about one minute, so the screen results reflect the current market. Daily crypto bars follow UTC.

Can I save the screen, get alerts and backtest it?

Yes. Save the formula to My Currency Screens, get an e-mail, SMS or Telegram alert when new coins match it, have the results e-mailed to you on a schedule, or backtest the formula as a trading strategy in the Crypto Backtester.
